Conversation audio and translations

After you agree to audio processing and allow microphone access, starting a conversation sends audio through our service to Alibaba Cloud for speech recognition, translation and automatic voice matching. Translated text and, when enabled, generated speech return to your phone. Tell the other person about this processing before you start.

Our translation service processes conversation content in memory; it does not intentionally write conversation audio or text to our account database or application logs. Alibaba Cloud also processes this content as the AI service provider. Processing takes place on cloud infrastructure and may occur outside your country. This is an online service, not on-device translation.

Recording and playback stop when you end a conversation, lock your phone or leave the app. Withdrawing audio processing consent in Settings prevents new translation sessions until you agree again.

History on your phone

When history is enabled, conversation text and generated translation audio are saved on this phone. Source microphone recordings are not saved as history. Talk excludes its history directory from cloud backup and does not upload that history to our servers. Device tilt is processed locally to arrange the screen and choose the speaking side.

You can delete history manually or turn off saving. Optional cleanup after 30 days or above 300 MB is off by default and removes saved audio, not conversation text. Deleting history or your account on one phone does not clear history on another device.

Accounts, purchases and service operation

Talk creates an anonymous account and stores an installation credential in the iOS Keychain or encrypted with Android Keystore. Our servers store the account identifier, hashed credentials and recovery identifiers, App Attest verification material, point balances, purchase and refund records, and metered translation usage. You can connect Sign in with Apple on iPhone or Google on Android; we use a hashed verified identifier for account recovery. Android asks you to link your Google identity before a purchase so that you can recover your points after reinstalling or changing phones. We do not request your Apple or Google password or receive your payment card details.

Apple and Google Play process in-app purchases on their respective platforms. We verify transactions to deliver points and reconcile refunds. Google purchase tokens are encrypted in our accounting database for delivery retries and refund reconciliation; they are not included in business notifications. Cloudflare provides request processing and security; Supabase hosts our account and accounting database. Network requests expose connection information such as IP addresses to the infrastructure handling them.

We record first account creation, first completed translation, purchases, refunds and operational errors to operate and understand the service. Selected events, containing account identifiers, amounts and technical status but no conversation content, are sent to our internal DingTalk channel. We do not include an advertising SDK or use Talk data for cross-app advertising tracking.

Optional notifications

Where notifications are available, enabling them registers this installation’s push token, account association, notification preferences and marketing consent choice. Apple delivers iPhone notifications through APNs; Google delivers Android notifications through Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), which also processes an app installation identifier and delivery information. Supabase and Cloudflare process our notification delivery records. Service notifications and news or offers are separate choices, both off initially. Marketing requires your explicit opt-in in the app, and you can turn either category off in Settings.

Notification messages contain no conversation content. Device registrations inactive for 90 days are removed, and delivery records are removed within 31 days of creation. Disabling all notifications removes this installation’s push registration when the change reaches our server. Account deletion removes its registered devices and pending notifications. A notification already handed to Apple or Google may still arrive; your device Settings can disable alerts immediately.

Optional Android usage analytics

On Android versions offering “Share usage analytics” in Settings, analytics are off by default. If you enable this option, Google Analytics for Firebase processes app activity, device and app information and a pseudonymous app-instance identifier. Our custom events report onboarding completion, conversation starts and ends, microphone readiness, generic errors, voice or text mode and opening checkout. The SDK may also collect standard app lifecycle, engagement and supported in-app purchase events. These reports help us understand reliability and conversion; our accounting system remains the source of truth for purchases and balances.

We do not send recordings, conversation text, sign-in details or payment tokens to Analytics, do not set an account-linked Analytics user ID, and disable advertising identifier collection and advertising personalization. Notification permission does not authorize analytics. You can turn analytics off in Settings at any time; this stops future collection and resets locally stored analytics data and its app-instance identifier. Resetting local data does not itself delete reports Google already processed. Contact us for privacy requests. Google describes its processing in its privacy policy.

Retention and account deletion

Account and recovery records remain while your Talk account is active. In Settings, choose Delete Talk account to remove your login and device links, invalidate access and clear local history on this phone. If you connected Apple or Google, confirm that identity before deletion. Apple authorization is revoked as part of that flow. Active usage must finish settling first.

Deletion forfeits remaining points. Purchase, refund and usage accounting records and a pseudonymous marker preventing repeated trial grants are retained for accounting, dispute handling, security and applicable legal obligations. Deletion does not automatically request a store refund. It does not delete a separate Lingather Live account.

Your choices and contact

You can change microphone access in your device Settings, withdraw cloud processing consent, manage local history, or delete your Talk account. For privacy questions, access or correction requests, contact support@rockhammerlabs.com. Please do not include passwords, private keys or sensitive conversation recordings.

Our website has its own website privacy policy. Apple and Alibaba Cloud also describe their processing in their respective privacy policies. Material changes to Talk processing will be reflected here and, where needed, in the app before new processing begins.
